Things to Do in Cozumel: The Perfect Island Getaway
Cozumel, a beautiful island located off the coast of Mexico, is known for its stunning beaches, clear blue waters, and world-class scuba diving. There are also plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining, and exploring Mayan ruins and quiet beaches.
Cozumel really is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of the Caribbean Sea. With so much to do and see, you're sure to have a memorable vacation!
Here are a few of the best things to do while in Cozumel:
Snorkeling and diving:
Cozumel is home to some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world. There are almost 40 dive sites, as well as, a great wreck to explore. What makes it even better is that the visibility is often over 100 feet!
Cozumel is a world-renowned destination for scuba diving. The island is located in the Meso-American Barrier Reef System, the second largest barrier reef system in the world. The clear waters, abundant marine life and ability to drift dive, make Cozumel a perfect place to dive.
The incredible diving in Cozumel is one of the biggest reasons that we chose to buy a vacation home/rental here!
We have been diving in these waters hundreds of times and it never gets old.

I’ve always loved to dive but never enjoyed snorkeling until I snorkeled in Cozumel. The snorkeling here is exciting, beautiful and provides a great way for non-divers and divers alike to experience the beauty and majesty of the water!
Better yet, it is the perfect way to spend a fun and relaxing day together and all ages can participate.
Things to Do in Cozumel:
Jungle tour
Explore the lush jungles of Cozumel on a guided tour. You'll see a variety of plants and animals, and you may even get to go swimming in a cenote’!
We tried this out on a rainy day when our snorkeling tour got canceled. We decided ATVing through the muddy jungle sounded pretty awesome and we were right!
We were paired onto ATV’s and led through the muddy jungle to a Cenote in El Cedral. The ATV ride was a blast and we all drove through as many puddles as possible!
The Cenote was quite an experience. It was exciting to get to ride our ATV’s to it and get the opportunity to jump in from the top! Talk about an adrenaline rush!
The Cenotes are more renowned in Playa Del Carmen for not only snorkeling but also diving. If you’re really wanting to experience a crystal clear Cenote for snorkeling or diving, we would recommend you head to Playa Del Carmen.
If you’re in Cozumel and down for an adventure, the Jungle Tour and Cenote’ Swim is a great thing to do!
Things to do in Cozumel:
El Cielo Tour
Speaking of adventure and beauty, if you’re looking for things to do in Cozumel you have to head to El Cielo with Clemente and Isla at Go Tour Cozumel!
This is a consistent favorite from every single person we know that has ever gone on this tour!
You’ll start your tour by being picked up by boat by Clemente and Isla who will make everyone feel like family within minutes of meeting them! Isla will fix you delicious drinks as they drive you to the first stop: snorkeling over the reef at Palancar Shallows and then continue on to Columbia Reef.
This continues to be one of the best places in all of Cozumel to snorkel, as well as, dive!
After you get your fill of marine life at the reef, you’ll head to the incredible sight that is El Cielo!
Famous for massive starfish and stingrays, you’ll get to experience snorkeling in the crystal clear waters with a view of starfish and stingrays for as far as your eyes can see!
While you snorkel with the starfish, fresh Ceviche will be prepared so that once that is finished … They wilI refill your drinks and you spend the rest of your time floating in the waters of El Cielo while eating your fill of fresh made Ceviche and guacamole!
This is by far one of our favorite things to do in Cozumel!
Things to Do in Cozumel:
Beach Bar Loop
The Cozumel Beach Bar Loop, on the east side of the island, is the perfect way to spend an afternoon in paradise! The east side of the island is known for its rugged beauty and unspoiled nature. The area is home to some of the most beautiful beaches on the island, with crystal-clear waters, powdery white sand, and stunning coral formations.
The beaches here are completely natural and un-commercialized, providing visitors with a peaceful and authentic experience. Unlike the bustling beach bar on the western side of the island, the east side is more of a wild and untamed landscape. In fact, it’s nickname is “The Wild Side”! The Cozumel beach bar loop attracts both locals and tourists, providing an opportunity to socialize, enjoy cold drinks, and indulge in some delicious local cuisine.
Whether you have a rental car or depend on taxi’s while you are on the island, don’t miss an incredible day exploring the Cozumel “wild side.”
